Norlite: Working For a Better Future
Our Product:
Is a safer and more sustainable raw material than other aggregate, and contributes to LEED-certified green buildings.
Our Process:
Avoids transportation emissions, and recovers energy from waste, providing a safe and responsible way to keep material out of landfills while using less fossil fuel, helping in the fight against climate change.
Our Community:
Norlite supports and invests in the community. Our staff conducts holiday toy drives every year, sponsors community recycling days, and offers learning opportunities for local educators through BOCES programs. In addition, Norlite provides jobs to 70 residents of Cohoes and neighboring communities and recently completed a $30 million voluntary investment to further reduce our environmental footprint in the area.
Norlite’s has been providing environmentally friendly construction material to our customers for 65 years, thanks to our specially-trained staff and continuously evolving technologies, while following stringent safety and compliance standards. Our process starts with our own raw material sourced on site, and we power our kilns with energy recovered from waste to reduce our use of fossil fuels, under strict state and federal rules.
The end product is an expanded shale aggregate that makes buildings safer, more environmentally friendly and more energy-efficient.
Norlite’s material has been used in iconic buildings, roadways and bridges, including the September 11 Memorial Garden in New York City, the Twin Bridges over the Mohawk River along the Northway, and the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s headquarters building in Albany.
At Norlite, we are committed to provide a better world for current and future generations, by providing products and processes that benefit the environment and the community.
